Since the creation of Garry's Mod, NPCs and other entities had a major flaw in their hitboxes. The hitbox of the entity would follow the collision of the entity, which is an issue because for most entities, especially NPCs, we do not want it to follow the collision box! Most NPCs have body parts that extend beyond their main body, and making it collidable would make its collision box huge, restricting its movement and causing other issues! The fix for this is to make the hitbox larger than the collision box, allowing extended body parts to be targeted by projectiles or bullets, but not collide with the map or other entities! Finally, with the upcoming Garry's Mod update, the developers have ported over the functions that allow the creation of hitbox separate from the collision box! As a result, after many tests, VJ Base will now use this system. This will be included in the next update, and all VJ NPCs will automatically be updated! Developers can also define their own hitbox if they wish to by simply calling the “SetSurroundingBounds“ on the NPC (Usually in initialize function).
