A comparison between monolithic and segemented projectiles against NERA armour arrays. This armour type is common on modern AFVs, and a simple steel-rubber-steel sandwich array is tested in this video. The segemented projectile is loosely based on the Russian 3BM42 'Mango' projectile but with different dimensions and velocity, to match the monolithic projectile's energy. The governing factors of projectile length, mass, and velocity are kept constant, for all tests for a fair comparison. The first 2 models use experimentally derived Johnson-Cook material parameters, from a reliable source. However, no source could be found for the brittle fracture material properties of tungsten, so the fracture models only provide an loose approximation of what might happen. (please let me know if you are aware of a reliable source)
