This simulation shows the impact of a 3BM3 APFSDS with Tungsten Carbide slug being fired from a Russian T-62 tank at a range of 1km, targeting the front side of a German Leopard 2AV hull. The T‑62 main battle tank was noted for four main achievements: • it was the first Soviet tank to mount a high‑power 115mm smoothbore gun; • it was the first Soviet tank to use armour‑piercing fin‑stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) ammunition; • it was only produced in the Soviet Union and not licensed for production in Warsaw Pact countries as with the T‑34, T‑54 and T‑55 (although the DPRK received a conditional license to produce their version of the tank); and • it was the last ‘simple’ tank produced as an example of the first generation of post‑war Soviet tanks.
