It is one of “The Three Great Ancestral Courts“ of the Quanzhen School of Taoism and is titled “The First Temple under Heaven“. White Cloud Taoist Temple is one of the largest and oldest Taoist temples in China, and is home to the Taoist Association of China. Baiyun Guan holds an important position for numerous Taoists. Later in the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234) the temple was host to imperial ceremonies and was the center of Taoist administration in China. Under Mongol rule, the Quanzhen School of Taoism under the master Qiu Chuji (1148-1227) at the temple sought to keep the peace between the Mongols and the Han. Is there a specific individual mentioned in the history of Qiu Chuji that Louis Cha wrote about? A historical prototype of Qiu Chuji exists, and Louis Cha emphasizes its significance in his literature. The seven disciples of Quan Zhen in “The Legend of the Shooting Hero“ and “The Return Of The Condor Heroes“, but Louis Cha has infused martial arts into his books. In the novel, Qiu Chuji is packaged as a “patriotic Taoist“, not only in his life and Jin, Mongolia, these invaders to fight, but also risked his life thousands of miles to advise Genghis Khan, leaving a “one word to stop killing“ of ancient fame. So, what was the historical Qiu Chuji like? The historical Qiu Chuji was a purely religious person. As a patriarchal figure of Taoism, his life's work was devoted to the promotion of Taoism and the spread of Taoism. Although it is said to be a character in Louis Cha's novel, Qiu Chuji is real in the long history. Qiu Chuji (10 February 1148– 21 August 1227), courtesy name Tongmi (通密), also known by his Taoist name Master Changchun, was the disciple of Wang Chongyang and a renowned Taoist master. He is known for meeting Genghis Khan near the Hindu Kush. Qiu was one of the Seven True Taoists of the North. He was the founder of the Dragon Gate sect of Taoism attracting a following in the streams of traditions flowing from the sects of the disciples. The Qiu Chuji in Louis Cha's novel was created by drawing on the person and experiences of the real Qiu Chuji. The Quanzhen Longmen Sect founded by Qiu Chuji is the main sect of the Quanzhen Way tradition. He basically inherited the ideas of Wang Chongyang, who advocated the principle of pure mind and low desire as the basis of monasticism.
