The day after the 2024 federal budget was released, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh exchanged quips in the House of Commons on Wednesday, during the first question period since the fiscal plan was made public. “Who pays for this latest $50 billion orgy of spending by this costly prime minister?” Poilievre asked. “We know who won't pay — It won't be those with trust funds that protect their millions of inheritance like the prime minister, nor the billionaires that invite him to their private Caribbean islands.” Trudeau retaliated by saying that it was “interesting to see the lengths” to which Poilievre would go to avoid admitting that he was “choosing to stand with the ultra-wealthy against the middle class, against young Canadians.” Meanwhile, Singh said that young people “know they’re getting ripped off” because of corporate greed, blaming it for driving up the cost of living.
