Zaïs is an opera first performed on 29th February 1748 at the Opéra in Paris. It takes the form of a pastorale héroïque in four acts and a prologue. The librettist was Louis de Cahusac. The score is particularly remarkable for its overture, which depicts the emergence of the four elements out of chaos. Composer: Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) Orchestra: Les Musiciens Du Louvre Director: Marc Minkowski Album: Rameau: Une Symphonie Imaginaire Pictures: Mesdames de France (The Fourth Elements) by Jean-Marc Nattier (1685 - 1766).
