Today, January 5, Dakar 2024 started. The first was the prologue with a special stage length of 27 km and a liaison of 130 km. Let's look at the results of the prologue. Bike classification. Tosha Schareina could not have hoped for a better start to his third Dakar and his first as an official rider. The man from Valencia has proven to be the quickest on the prologue to pick up his first stage win on the Dakar. He has beaten the GASGAS ridden by Daniel Sanders by 12’’ and the Hero ridden by Ross Branch by 19. Adrien Van Beveren has put the second Honda in the rankings into fourth position 24’’ behind the winner. Luciano Benavides, who won three stages last year, finished fifth, 2’’ behind Van Beveren. His brother, title holder Kevin Benavides, achieved the day’s ninth best time, a little less than one minute behind the winner. Car classification. Mattias Ekström has begun his fourth Dakar in style by winning the prologue to claim his third stage victory in total. The Swedish driver completed the day 23’’ ahead of Seth Quintero, who is taking his first steps in the Ultimate class after having shone in the class below (T3) over the last three editions. Sébastien Loeb completes the day’s top 3 with the same time as fourth-placed Marcos Baumgart. Challenger classification. Eryk Goczał’s promotion to the Challenger class is a success so far! The SSV title holder has won the prologue (just like he did on his first race in the class at the Rallye du Maroc last year). He crossed the finishing line 20″ in front of his uncle Michal and 21″ ahead of British driver Kris Meeke. Austin Jones, last year’s winner, finished 24th almost de 3 minutes behind the winner. Truck classification. Janus Van Kasteren has been the quickest truck driver to reach the end of the day’s special. The Dutchman has finished 16’’ ahead of Aleš Loprais and 45’’ in front of Mitchel Van Den Brink. As for Martin Macík, he has achieved the day’s sixth best time, 1’16’’ behind Van Kasteren. #dakar #dakar2024 #RallyDakarPro
