Shawnee, ! This place looks like it's been frozen in time, and has a very haunting feel to it. At a quick glance Main Street looks like a total ghost town, looking into it further, this is home to 506 residents. Founded in 1872, and located in Perry County in the Southern part of Ohio, this was a booming coal mine area. Coal mining, furnaces, and brick factories were a large part of the driving force for the economy. Banks, saloons, stores, a place had it all. After the 1930's era, the boom came to an end. Today, very little is left. Much of it is abandoned, falling apart, and in need of repair. For anyone who stays here the amenities are pretty much non existent, commutes to work are long, unemployment rate is an unheard of 34%, and for the most part very remote overall from anything. Much of the land has been purchased and designated as part of the Wayne County National Forest. Let's take a drive and check it out!
