In addition to his work in an Erlangen machine factory, the Spaniard Balaguer founded a band called “Fantomas“ in 1970. Two years later he became a member of the “Capitolo XIII“ formation. As a background musician for Georgie Dann, he met his compatriots Milian and López, with whom he formed the Trio Santabárbara, which in autumn 1973 was number five on the German charts with the song Charly. In May 1974 the single rose to 18th place in Austria, in October of the year it rose to the Swiss charts and reached second place. Despite numerous other releases until 1981, Charly remained Santabárbara's only hit.
