The ISM Code is a set of guidelines for shipping companies and its employees, both on ship and shore, to ensure that the ship and the companies are operating as per guidelines of SOLAS Chapter IX, to ensure safety at sea, prevent damage to property, personnel, and environment. The ISM Code became Mandatory for Passenger Ship, High Speed Craft, Oil and Chemical Tankers and Gas and Bulk Carriers on 01 July 1998 and became Mandatory for All Vessel and Offshore Units at Sea on 01 July 2002.
