Lava continued to spew from a volcano in Iceland on Wednesday (December 20) after an eruption late on Monday (December 18) on the Reykjanes peninsula in the southwest of the country. Live stream camera footage showed the lava spouting from a fissure at the site of the eruption northeast of the fishing town of Grindavik in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Authorities last month evacuated the nearly 4,000 inhabitants of Grindavik about 40 km (25 miles) southwest of capital city Reykjavik, allowing them back intermittently to check on homes put at risk by the tremors.
