Produced by Charles Cahill & Associates, Hollywood, California, the movie follows several different drivers, each with their own concerns, and offers some helpful advice on how to enjoy fast, safe driving. It was filmed in both Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. Film opens with a montage of cars rushing over the Golden Gate Bridge, and on California freeways (0:12). From 0:24, a variety of people speak about both the joys and troubles of driving on the freeway. (:31) a man drives a Ford Thunderbird convertible. An older lady (0:49) drives slowly with white gloves; the fast traffic makes her nervous. Other drivers also feel that driving safely is a difficult task. A professional driver in a dark green Kenworth semi-trailer truck squints and shakes his head (1:04). Title card: “FAST SAFE FREEWAY DRIVING” (1:19) At 2:23, Mr. Willoughby in his Studebaker Lark slows down, nervous and hesitant as he tries to merge with oncoming traffic. At 2:48 a Desoto Fireflite is seen in traffic. Approaching the traffic too slowly is a common problem, and it is dangerous. However, the aggressive driver in a red MG Midget convertible is too hasty (3:14). He honks at Mr. Willoughby and yells, “Why don’t you drive it or park it?” Instead of getting to his destination faster, this jackrabbit lane-changer gets pulled over by police (3:46). Mr. Willoughby passes by, laughing (4:09). A woman in a headscarf drives a Plymouth Valiant convertible. She carefully pulls over by the side of the road at 4:20, cautiously waiting for help. Close-up of her problematic tire at 4:32. Two other cars skid to a sudden halt (5:30). Following too closely behind another car can cause a major tragedy. At 5:19, a driver peers into his side mirror, while his passenger looks into a compact mirror (5:22). Close-ups of a side-view mirror (5:26), and rear-view mirror (5:30). However, there is no substitute for a real look at what’s behind (5:32). Men in a Ford Zephyr convertible drive by (5:37). (5:41) Police comes to help the lady in the headscarf. From 6:39, footage of drivers battling heavy rain and limited visibility. A succession of road signs reading: “Olympic Blvd.” (7:02), “3rd St” (7:04), “Indiana St, Ditman St, Olympic Blvd” (7:06), “INDIANA ST. USE RIGHT LANE” (7:07), Ditman Ave.” (7:09). Mr. Willoughby puts on his glasses, clumsily trying to read his map while driving (7:10). He is poorly prepared for his trip. At 7:37, a final montage of all of the drivers featured in the film. Then the film wraps up with a summary of the driving advice: Know where you’re going (7:52), Merge smoothly (7:57), Drive with traffic flow (8:00), Know emergency procedures (8:11), Don’t change lanes unnecessarily (8:19), Plan ahead (8:24). At 8:31, the aggressive driver tailgates the large truck with his puny open top. And the film closes with another shot of the Golden Gate Bridge (8:43). Let’s keep it a dream, and not a nightmare. Enjoy fast, safe freeway driving. Closing credits at 8:52. We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
