Buildings Shake As Earthquake Hits Elazi, Trkiye October 16 2024 deprem Matalya Turkey

A earthquake struck in the region of Elaziğ in the Malatya province of eastern Turkey today on October 16, 2024, at 10:46 AM local time. The earthquake caused widespread panic, with people rushing out of buildings in fear. As a precaution, schools were closed in both Malatya. The tremor was felt in neighboring provinces, including Diyarbakir, Elazig, Sanliurfa, and Tunceli, as well as parts of northern Syria. According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), four buildings were damaged across Malatya, Sanliurfa, and Elazig. In Elazig, some individuals were rescued from a partially damaged building. Malatya is still recovering from the devastating 2020 earthquake. Many buildings that were at risk of collapse had already been demolished or evacuated, which helped reduce damage during this recent quake.
