The top tank-killer of Germany's WWII fighting force, the Sturmgeschütz III was also Germany's most produced in number of any fully tracked armored fighting vehicles. Built on the successful Panzer III chassis, the StuG III was produced first in late 1942 and was continued through to the end of the war, seeing service on all of Nazi Germany's fronts. The rounded cast 'Saukopf' or 'Pig's Head' gun mantlet seen here is a feature of late production StuG III G, and was designed to offer more protection. StuG of varying types saw service after WWII as well, most notably in Yugoslavia and by Syria through the Six-Day War. Weighing in at a skimpy 24 tons, the StuG III G was built for a crew of 4. It was equipped with a 75 mm StuK 40 L/48 main cannon and 1 or 2 x mm MG34/42 machine guns.
