Joseph Schmidt would have become one of the greatest lyric tenors of the 20th century, if World War II never happened. The tenor of Jewish origin was “interned” (i.e. imprisoned) in a Swiss refugee camp, where he died of a heart attack at the age of 38. 💔 Joseph Schmidt delivers a beautiful rendition of “Ach, so fromm” from Flotow’s opera Martha.
