To the best of our knowledge this is the first instance where we show that transverse acoustic forcing could lead to a hysteresis in swirling flows. The hysteresis leads to a bistable state between a bubble type vortex breakdown (BVB) and a conical vortex breakdown (CVB). See other videos from the 2021 Gallery of Fluid Motion:
