One of the earliest anti-smoking films, SMOKING THE INSIDE STORY was created by the Michigan Cancer Foundation to vividly show the effects of smoking to a young audience. At mark 1:00, a scientist in a laboratory begins a discussion about cigarette smoking with two lab assistants. The scientist shows a series of images from cigarette ads, directed at selling cigarettes. He also shows (mark 1:30) more than 13 gallons of smoke that come from a single pack of cigarettes, contained in the flask. He asks the question, “Why do people start smoking?“ Both lab assistants say that it made them more adult. At mark 2:38, they watch TV commercial excerpts that show adults smoking. At mark 3:20, the scientist points out that most people continue smoking because they do not reason on what effect it has on them. The facts about smoking are easy to understand. At mark 3:34, he carries out a test on a goldfish. Smoke is passed to the goldfish and its effects are seen at mark 4:30. It made it dizzy as it is on human. At mark 5:20, a mouse is tested on. The Roswell Park Memorial Institute, one of the top cancer research institutes in the USA, is seen at mark 5:20. At mark 5:35, the mice are marked. At mark 5:44, the smoking affects the lungs of the mice after a few weeks upon testing. The mice then die. At mark 6:05, he gives joe a cigarette test by smoking through a tissue. At mark 7:00, the both tissues are seen with one containing more tar than the other. He comments on lungs been painted with tars due to the inhaled smoke. At mark 7:28 is another way smoking affects the body. At mark 7:50 is a pressure gauge which shows how the body pressure alters with smoking. At mark 7:58, the pressure gauge is turned on and it measures 2 for normal body. In a smoker’s body, the pressure reads 8. At mark 8:36, he talks on consequences of smoking. At mark 9:00, more smokers die of heart attacks than non-smokers. At mark 9:30, he talks on emphysema. Lung x-rays are seen for normal and non-smokers. At mark 10:40, he reads from a surgeon’s journal report. Of all the diseases of smoking, lung cancer is the most effective. At mark 11:15, he plays the screen an illustration of how lung cancer is. At mark 11:35, a display of smoking and cancer is seen from internal organs. From all this, tumor form. He talks of symptoms of cancer at mark 12:30. A picture is seen for this. At mark 13:08 is a single benefit of smoking, like a pacifier. At mark 14:00, he further light the smoke.
