Many people are unaware that allocating donor organs remains to be a prominent limitation in performing transplant surgeries. The waiting list for recipients awaiting an organ has been increasing and often recipients are admitted into the hospital on life support while they wait. Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) is a medical procedure that could potentially reduce wait times by modifying a donor’s lungs to improve the post-operation outcomes and overall survival rate. Dr. Steve Singh, a renowned cardiac surgeon joins the discussion to provide insight on EVLP.
