Aachen is a city in western Germany in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located a few kilometers from the border with Belgium and the Netherlands. Aachen is one of the most important historical cities in Germany. In the Middle Ages, it was chosen by Charlemagne as his residence and was one of the centers of the mighty kingdom of the Franks.
