Hi everyone! I have another original track to share today, I hope you like it! This one has taken me quite a while to nail down (been doing lots of piano stuff) but I'm really happy with how it ended up. I am planning to do a second phase for this boss in the future. My channel is primarily a piano-cover focused one, but I will be posting original works here and there as well. Don't worry, more piano covers are on the way! Artwork by Grigory Gore: Just like my last track 'Arcane Dragonfly,' I worked closely with my friend Vincent Bender on the mix, and he did the mastering as well. Thank you for your patience Vincent. He offers lessons - very worthwhile! He is also a talented composer, check out his work here: I'd also like to thank some of my wonderful and talented music friends for giving me feedback, suggestions, and encouragement for this piece: Marcel, Dyroth, Cthuluseeker, Spektron, and others. Lore Scenario I always try to compose my tracks with a specific hypothetical game scenario in mind - inspired by the many Soulslikes and other games I've played. This is for a 'fire giant' type of boss fight. (Molten Core, anyone?) This time I let the artwork guide the composition, adding a bit of imagination on top of what's already there. I've imagined a boss fight where an NPC Mage is assisting you in the fight from afar. You need to keep the giant busy and weaken it in melee range while the mage attempts to call down a massive lightning spell from the skies to deal the final blow. I love fights against huge bosses in souls games, camera issues and all. I wanted to keep the vibe heroic yet menacing, and with traces of magical excitement. I didn't really want it to feel overly tragic or evil like many Dark Souls themes are, since elemental foes (even fire type ones) can be viewed as neutral entities and simply have the disposition of their primary natural element. Fire elementals are just gonna burn stuff down, but that's because they are made of fire and it's how they are, not because they're evil. I imagine this colossus needs to be taken down due to its sheer destructive possibilities, but in a bit of a respectful way like it feels to cut down a tree on your lawn that might crush your roof. Think of this Earthblood Colossus as a kind of misunderstood “Prince Zuko“-like figure (but without the redemption arc, sorry). I also wanted to make the track feel huge during the chorus to reflect the sheer size of the sprawling lava landscape and the foe you are up against. This is meant to be only phase 1 of this fight, and I will be releasing phase 2 separately later. Right now I'm thinking it would an awesome scenario if the banishing spell fails at the end of phase 1, actually backfiring and killing your friendly NPC mage in the process (in a little cutscene. Plot twist!) The Earthblood Colossus ends up being half squished into a crawling pool of lumbering lava jelly, but it is now enraged and crawls after you - and its attacks are imbued with both fire and lightning due to the failed spell. He got only half destroyed, and got a lightning enchant as compensation. Which type of resistance on your gear will be needed at that point? That will come next and will feel more dreadful than this phase. :) Thank you so much for listening! This is and will remain primarily a piano-cover-focused YT channel, but I appreciate all of you who also make time to check out my original works. I have another piano cover about halfway done! A music theory breakdown of this track can be found in the comments, as always. As a side note, I have gotten an uptick in subscribers after my recent Armored Core VI piano cover and I just wanted to express gratitude for that and welcome any newcomers to my channel.
