The Story of “Mr. Soul Satisfaction, THE WEEKLINGS brilliant “mash-up“ feat. the great Peter Noone of Herman Hermits fame on lead vocals! While assembling tracks for the upcoming Weeklings “Raspberry Park” album, Glen Burtnik (aka Lefty Weekling) thought that a mash-up arrangement might work with the other material. After hearing “Mr. Soul” by The Buffalo Springfield (written and sung by a very young Neil Young) on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, Glen was inspired to reach back to his ‘60s roots, recalling the musical similarities among “Mr. Soul”, “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones, and “Valerie” by The Monkees. And it hit him—they would make a great mash-up!! The basic concept was that the lyrics to Mr. Soul could be sung over the music of Satisfaction. Based on a rough demo, the band took the idea into Shorefire Studios, Long Branch, New Jersey, and cut the rhythm track to what is now “Mr. Soul Satisfaction”. After recording the song, The Weeklings felt it would be cool to have a guest artist come in and sing the lead vocal track. But who would that be? Once again they reached out to a wonderful friend and supporter, the great Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits fame who had done an amazing lead vocal on “Friday On My Mind“ on their last album, 3, and to the band's surprise, once again, he accepted! So here it is, the “mash-up“ that you never realized was missing in your life, “MR. SOUL SATISFACTION“! (This video was shot at the Carteret Performing Arts Center, Carteret, NJ thanks to our dear friend, Executive Director Diane St John and our course, Peter Noone! Another Mark Laidlaw video!
