Stu Hamm, Factor bass, vocals; Steve Recker, lead guitar; Brett Riggs, keyboards; Dave Karasony, drums. Todd, roadie. I knew young Stu back at Berklee when he was playing with a young Steve Vai, another Berklee mate. When Vai got the gig with Frank Zappa, Stu played with the Steve Recker band in L.A. for a while. I then went off with Al Stewart and Stu went off with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, and the three became serious legends. I happened to call Stu in 1990 and he said he was looking for a guitarist to tour Kings of Sleep and offered me the spot. It was a lot of fun, but I don't think I have ever worked as hard in my life. Those were some big shoes to fill. My good buddy Stu was used to listening to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Buzzy Feiten, Eric Johnson, the list goes on. I'll never forget our showcase for Relativity Records before our tour. I was playing louder than I had ever in my life and Stu looks over and said, “Aren't you going to turn that thing up?“ I then knew how Mike Stern felt when Miles looked at him and said something like, “Turn up or turn it off!“
