Lesson Packs & Camps 👉 What the hell does 5 6 5 mean? 🧐 Here we can count a total of 5 notes starting from the first cymbal hit, then 6 notes from the second one, then 5 from the third one, before it all starts over again. This gives us a sort of “phrasing“, a certain push and pull that's based on the numbers 5 6 5. Together they equal 16, which means we can play and feel it as 16th notes (counting 4 notes per pulse). That allows us to play this groove as a complete 4/4 beat - one full bar of sixteen 16th notes. 🤘 Using groupings really is the key to unlocking new grooves and fills. 🗝️ Take groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. (you can “fill“ these with ANY stickings you want to use) and combine them to form the desired subdivision and length of the phrase. Practice the groupings one by one, then slowly piece them together and bring it all up to speed. ✌️ Have fun practicing this one! // Si
