Happy to finally post this percussion and flute cover of “Shevat, the Wind is Calling“ from Xenogears, featuring my good friend Wilbert Roget II on Flute! Originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, I arranged this for marimba, vibraphone, steel drums, glockenspiel, flute, and lots of other percussion instruments. You probably know Wilbert Roget II as a game composer, having scored Call of Duty: WWII, Guild Wars 2, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11. What you might not have known is that he's an excellent flute player and improviser as well! I've been wanting an excuse to arrange this for a long time, and that excuse finally made itself available to me when the Materia Collective began a Xenogears arrangement project. I played Xenogears for the first time not terribly long ago, and it left a very strong impression on me. It was actually Will who convinced me to play it, and ever since, I had dreamed of collaborating with him on an arrangement from the game. I'm so happy he was willing to work with me on this--not just as a performer, but with his sage advice on the audio production of this track! This track was released on “Omega: A Tribute to Xenogears“ by the Materia Collective under the title “Those Who Went Above the Ground“, and is available for purchase on Bandcamp here: --- Instruments used: Musser M55 vibraphone Adams Robert van Sice Artist Series 5-octave marimba Premier Glockenspiel (thanks Alex) Kyle Dunleavey double-second steel pans Cooperman bendir Ghanaian djembe Toca congas Meinl shaker Sleigh Bells Indian ankle bells Treeworks wind chimes Yamaha CP33 keybaord My voice :) Wilbert Roget II plays a Powell Sonaré PS-505 flute, recorded with Monoprice Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones Sticks/mallets by Vic Firth, Robert and Cecil van Sice, and Dragonfly Percussion Audio gear and software: RØDE NT5s, MXL 550, Shure SM57 and Beta 52-A Focusrite 18i8 interface Reaper Impact Soundworks' Pearl Concert Grand Piano, Native Instruments Factory Collection Funk Bass --- Doug on Twitch: Doug on Patreon: Doug on Facebook: Doug on Twitter: Doug on SoundCloud: Doug's website:
