Illinois: Mayor Brandon Johnson is asked whether or not he plans on making changes to his summer safety strategy after 71 people were shot over the weekend and a 7 year old was shot and killed today in Chicago. He responds by saying that it’s “unfortunate that we have people fighting my [Johnson’s] administration against the investments we are working to make“ and says that “our parks are open“ He closes by saying what is needed in this moment is to create “more opportunities for families“ and says the tragedy we are dealing with right now is the “direct result of decades of disinvestment“ He did not provide an answer as to whether or not he plans on making changes to his summer safety strategy. A reminder that the “Detached Services Unit“ on the Chicago Police Department, which houses the mayor’s protection detail, has over 150 officers assigned to it. The 16th district, which covers the far NW side, has 228 officers assigned to it for over 200,000 citizens. 16th & 17th District... Source: Police frequency
