The Church of the Annunciation sometimes also referred to as the Basilica of the Annunciation, is a Catholic church in Nazareth, in northern Israel. The location of the grand and impressive Basilica of the Annunciation is where, according to Christian tradition, the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was going to give birth to Jesus. In the heart of the church is a grotto hewn into the rock, where Mary lived. The church was built in 1969 on the remains of churches from the Crusaders period and the Byzantine period.
