Sergei Taneyev(1856-1915) - Choral Varié Сергей Иванович Танеев - Хоральные Вариации (Thema-Canon per moto contrario-Basso ostinato-Fughetta) This is the only existing composition for organ-solo written by russian polyphonic genius. The music is marked with plasticity, emotional and intellectual balance and consists of four sections - the theme and three variations. The particular note is the choice of the theme - “Salutatio Angelica“ .The modal harmony, use of relative minor and song-like melodic movement are strongly akin to russian color. Various stylistic influences are obvious in this piece including Bach's BWV 769 Originally the piece was written on two staves with indication of the pedal usage only in Basso ostinato and Fughetta - and can be found is the 8-th book of Anthology by Abbot Joubert The modern editor's version I play here is written on three staves with necessarity of essential pedal usage in all parts because of naturalness to simplify the performer's life due to extremely awkwardness of facture with plenty of difficult finger-substitutions especially in modulating canon and parrallel third movements in Fughetta. btw ,I added on my own taste a pathetic octave-doubled LH passage in the last bar before final chord #jankowskyorganist #сергейтанеев #choralvarie
