President Donald Trump is continuing with his pledge to send the National Guard to Memphis to address crime. During a meeting in the Oval Office, the President acknowledged that plans have moved away from Chicago, for now at least. Trump, joined by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, signed an order on Monday sending the National Guard into Memphis. The President called what’s coming a “replica of our extraordinarily successful efforts“ in Washington. A number of Trump administration officials joined President Trump at the White House. This included remarks from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Kash Patel, and United States Senator Marsha Blackburn. Trump has previously said leaders from Memphis, Tennessee, are on board, “The mayor is happy“ and “the governor is happy.“ The city’s mayor is a Democrat, and the state’s governor is a Republican. President Trump said last week that Memphis is “deeply troubled“ and promised to “fix that just like we did Washington,“ where he previously sent National Guard troops and increased federal law enforcement.
