The first lecture in a course on experimental design, taught to master’s students in the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology program at ITMO University. The first lecture will cover the experimental design process and discuss stages such as formulating the experimental problem, selecting endpoints, and choosing controls. The second part of the lecture will focus on an example where an incorrectly planned and unvalidated experiment first led to a near Nobel Prize and then became the biggest mistake in microbiology of the 20th century.
