He’s an American business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He’s the chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. Do things differently He was born into a poor family and grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. 2. Know how to run a business He started his business career at the age of 12, when he borrowed money and purchased a license to sell newspapers in Boston. 3. Dream At the age of 16, he had started a candy-vending-machine business. 4. Never lie about anything In the late 1970s, Adelson and his partners developed the computer trade show COMDEX. 5. Necessity is the mother of invention They sold the COMDEX shows, to SoftBank Corporation of Japan for $862 million. His share was over $500 million. 6. Don’t compromise In 1988, Adelson and his partners purchased the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. 7. Support the community He also owns the Israeli daily newspaper Israel Hayom. 8. Think long term He spearheaded a major project to bring the Sands name to Macau, the Chinese gambling city. 9. Be fearless He’s a lifelong donor and philanthropist to a variety of causes. 10.
