Building a hydraulic wood splitter from scratch. This time I'm fabricating the wedge slot in the splitter body. I made it completely out of Hardox steel and also the four way wedge. The support piece will have extra gussets and angles for extra strength in the back. The wedge itself will most probably stay as skinny as is, except a couple of guides on the sides to prevent it from slipping off the back support. I'm also planning on making additional 6- and 8-way wedges to quicken the firewood production. When it comes to the hydraulics - this is my very first project where I'm 100% in charge for hydraulics and I learn as I go. Thus - switching up components and location of components is normal I guess. I tried to salvage a couple of old cylinders and it is doable for sure and I'll keep'em as spares. But I found it easier to go and get new ones that don't leak and will hold their position when in use while splitting firewood. Especially for the log loader table. This is extremely importa
