On this day, 29 years ago, ’the great heart stopped beating’. President Kim Il Sung passed away at the age of 82, sending the country into hysteria. The event was a terrible shock to the Korean people who had known no other leader for close to five decades. The song was written in 1971 by General Kim Jong Il in reference to his father. This served as the main theme for the revolutionary opera ’A True Daughter of the Party’. Since then, following the departure of both leaders, the track has gained status as an ’Immortal Classic Masterpiece’ reflecting the yearning the people have for them to this day. Every morning, Pyongyangites are reminded of them through Pyongyang Station’s loudspeakers. from which a version of the song perpetually plays. As its primary singer, it cemented the late Kim Kwang Suk as the DPRK’s most legendary singer of the time, and perhaps still to this day. **Please set the video quality to 1440p to see the remastered effect.** Apparently this doesn’t happen automatically.
