New Year's Eve in Copacabana is the biggest New Year's Eve party in Brazil and in the world, which takes place from December 31st to January 1st at Copacabana beach, located in Rio de Janeiro. The party has a fireworks display lasting about 17 minutes, shows by various artists, currently attracting around two million people. The word réveillon originates from the French verb réveiller which has the meaning to wake up, thus réveillon is the awakening of the new year. The party had smaller proportions, and everyone wore white to greet Iemanjá with offerings taken to the sea before midnight.
