A playthrough of Sony Images of Imagesoft's 1993 NES game, Bram Stoker's Dracula. Played through on hard mode. The video also shows all of the secret bonus areas and Van Helsing's hiding spots. Has anyone else noticed how many different games there are that were dedicated to the Keanu Reeves/Gary Oldma/Winona Ryder Dracula movie? This and the GB, GG, and SMS versions are the same, then there's the SNES and Genesis game, the Sega CD one, and even a FPS released on PC! I never was terribly familiar with the NES version of this game, but I did have it on the Game Boy as a kid, and the games are nearly identical. Jonathan has to go through seven different stages, each broken into daytime and nighttime sub-stages, filled with finding Van Helsing, collecting items, and killing of Dracula and his succubi. Neat concept. The platforming is pretty average, but it is smooth, fast, and detailed - it actually reminds me of the Alien3 game (also developed by Probe- do they share an engine?), but the real star here is the soundtrack done by Jeroen Tel. It's pretty amazing, especially since it goes for ambiance more than melody - not something that was attempted too often on the NES. It's really something else in how it actually manages to do the whole evocation of stress/fear/dread with arpeggiated square wave lines. It's not for everyone, but even if you don't like it, you have to admit it's pretty impressive. _____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
