The shoulder structure has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body. Even these exercises cover only a small fraction of the ranges available. I use to think of training pull-ups, push-ups, dips, rows, etc. Now i focus on creating strength and control throughout the entire range of the shoulder (and all joints). The expression may look similar, but the intention is different. Progressively training the body’s (joints) range of motion vs just training “exercises“ or worse, muscles... The vernacular is still useful (especially with the accepted cacophony of content in the “fitness’ world), but the concept is to focus on the complex myriad of ranges available to the body. Expanding them, strengthening them. Pull, Push, Squat, Lunge, Carry, Throw, etc. are wonderfully useful. BUT, all are made better by developing diverse and robust ranges of motion through the joints.
