This presentation was delivered as part of the Twelfth Birmingham Colloquium on the Textual Criticism of the New Testament, via Zoom, on 21st January 2021. The manuscript designated as P11 in the Liste currently contains twenty-four fragments of papyrus held at both St. Catherine’s Monastery and the Russian National Library. The history of P11 is perhaps more fascinating than the text of the manuscript. Tischendorf discovered this manuscript in 1862 as the first biblical papyrus to have been uncovered. The manuscript was denoted as Q in Tischendorf’s editions of the Greek New Testament. In 1 Corinthians 5:1, an interesting reading occurs in the manuscript (folio 13r). After the first πορνεια in the verse, an extra character is found before the next word (και) begins in P11. The main purpose of this paper will be to examine the potential possibilities for understanding the extra character found at 1 Cor. 5:1.
