These recordings by a very young John Williams date from the early to mid 1950's. William's family moved from Australia to the U.K. in 1952, shortly before he turned 12. The recordings were probably made when he was around 13 or 14 years old. These non commercial Acetate Discs (Soft Cuts) were in the possession of the late composer John Duarte, who made a cassette copy of these 7 Ponce Preludes, around in around 1975. Although easy to edit out, The “Needle Drop“ was left in to give it a certain authenticity, as if you were in the room playing these very rare recordings. Ponce: Prelude No. 1 00:00 - 01:19 Ponce: Prelude No. 7 01:20 - 02:09 Ponce: Prelude No. 8 02:10 - 03:47 Ponce: Prelude No. 9 03:48 - 04:36 Ponce: Prelude No. 11 04:37 - 05:23 Ponce: Prelude No. 15 05:24 - 06:26 Ponce: Prelude No. 17 06:27 - 07:19
