Labour’s plan for a “trans-inclusive” ban on conversion therapy risks criminalising parents who don't want their children to transition, Sir Keir Starmer has been warned. A group of MPs, peers, and medical experts have written to the Prime Minister expressing serious concerns about the proposal. They warn that the legislation could also criminalise therapists who don’t fully support a child’s desire to transition. A similar ban proposed by the previous government was delayed due to fears it could target parents, teachers, and therapists who question a child’s belief about their gender. Labour has revived the plan, launching a new Office for Equality and Opportunity, led by Annelise Dodds, which prioritises a full, trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices.
