Kham On, a female Asian Elephant, spent 40 years carrying tourists on her back. She was taken from the wild as a calf, chained, and 'trained' to be obedient... at the time of life she was most dependent on her mother and should have been roaming the forests with her herd. But last week, this gentle giant was finally free to walk on the natural grounds she was always meant to. Animals Asia works with local communities to encourage elephant owners (or 'mahouts') to come with their elephants to Vietnam's first ethical elephant program at Yok Don National Park. Here, retired working elephants roam with their friends and are free to go where and do what they please. Their mahout follow to make sure they are safe, while tourists observe the elephants from a respectful distance. Animals Asia rescues bears from the bear bile farming industry and elephants from elephant riding and campaigns for an end to the cat and dog meat trades. #elepahnt #ElephantRescue #ElephantSanctuary #EthicalTourism #Vietnam
