Brüder, Zur Sonne, Zur Freiheit (Brothers, To The Sun, To Freedom) is a German rendition of the iconic Soviet revolutionary song “Comrades, Let’s Bravely March“ (Смело, товарищи, в ногу) written in 1896. The German lyrics were written sometime after the creation of the German Democratic Republic and the song became a popular march and political song in the GDR. Since the fall of the GDR, the song and its tune has retained its popularity among German socialists, communists and other leftists and remains a song firmly associated with the radical-left and those with nostalgia for the GDR.
