A tribute to one of the world's most battle-hardened in-service main battle tanks -- the British FV4034 Challenger 2. Challenger 2 entered service in 1998 and has seen service in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq. During the 2003 Iraq War, one Challenger 2 sustained multiple direct RPG hits and a MILAN anti-tank missile but survived and returned to service several hours later. The Challenger 2 is widely regarded as one of the best protected in-service main battle tanks in the world, equipped with second generation Chobham armour. Its uniquely rifled gun is the successor to the L11A5, which scored the longest tank-to-tank kill in military history during the Gulf War. There are currently 407 Challenger 2's in service with the British Army.
