Sydney, Australia, was flooded twice this month by unprecedented downpours, prompting mass evacuations of several low-lying suburbs. In the US Midwest, flooding caused road closures and evacuations, and the rapid build-up of water caused a partial failure of the Rapidan Dam in Minnesota, washing away part of a riverbank, destroying a power station and causing power cuts to some 600 homes.
