The Korean government and private sector have jointly been making all-out efforts to support Busan's bid and diplomats are no exception. One top diplomat, along with the embassy workers in Brussels, has been promoting Busan's Expo bid by riding a bicycle. What does the diplomat think about the reasons why Busan is the right candidate for the expo? And what would it mean for South Korea if it gets to host it? For this, we invited a very special guest. The very diplomat who promoted the bid by riding a bicycle South Korean Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union and Permanent Mission to the NATO Ryu Jeonghyun. Welcome, ambassador. Q1. Let's first talk about the role of the ambassador. You are the ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union and the Permanent Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Could you briefly tell us the role undertaken by the embassy? Q2. As the Korean ambassador to the EU, I heard you and other diplomats representing the Republic of Korea got together to promote Busan's Expo bid and did some cycling. Could you tell us what this was about? And why was bike riding chosen? Q3. Many say it must have had a great promotional effect on Busan's bid for the 2030 Expo, in that, Brussels is known as “the heart of Europe” as well as “the de facto capital of the European Union.” Why is it the heart of Europe and to what extent do you expect the event to have had an impact on Busan's bid? Q4. Not just our diplomats but conglomerates such as LG Group are actively making efforts to promote Busan's bid for the Expo, by having advertisements on buses and promotional videos on large LED billboards at major landmarks. Were you able to see many of them? Q5. I would like to ask what our ambassador's view is on the reason why Busan City is the right candidate for the 2030 Expo. Could you give the main reason compared to other cities? Q6. The popularity of K-content --K-pop, K-movies, and K-food is being witnessed globally, and I assume Europe is not an exception. How is Korean culture being received on the European continent and is such cultural strength in any way helping Busan's bid? Q7. As a diplomat representing the Republic of Korea, it would obviously mean a lot if Busan does win the Expo bid. If it does, what would it mean in terms of elevating the country's global status? Q8. Now, we are nearing the end of the competition what is the embassy doing to boost Busan's chances to win the bid in the last few days? And what final efforts do you believe should be put in place? Q9. Lastly, I would like to briefly ask about the relationship between the EU and the Republic of Korea, as it celebrates the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. What kind of partnership are we seeing? Q10. In what ways do you believe such a strategic partnership between the Republic of Korea and the EU could be boosted?
