The songwriters Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan had their second consecutive hit with this one after Frankie Valli's “My Eyes Adored You“ hit #1. The man responsible for the sound of “Lady Marmalade“ was producer Allen Toussaint, who brought the New Orleans style of R&B to the table and helped to create a smash hit that still fills the dance floor today. Their funky backing band, The Meters were known for their precision playing and also hailed from New Orleans. The song first hit in the disco clubs and then radio stations were bombarded with calls to play it. In 2001, Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya & Pink recorded the song for the movie “Moulin Rouge“ and it became a #1 hit again this time for five weeks!
