They say that actors should not work with animals or children but let's be honest, through the sixties Elvis worked with his fair share of both. However, in his 1960 movie “G.I. Blues“ it was working with a baby that allowed him to sing one of the most beautiful songs that he ever recorded. Whether or not you are of the opinion that was material he should be recording or not does not hide the fact that Elvis' vocal is soft and clear befitting the lullaby in question. Unlike many songs that revolved around children in his later movie, “Big Boots“ is given the full on commitment by Elvis and the result is superb. It was recorded by Elvis on 8 May 1960 at Radio Recorders' Studio in Hollywood but that only tells part of the story. The song was recorded at three different tempos, imaginatively labeled by RCA as fast, medium and slow.
