Thomas Gainsborough, a British artist famous for his rendering of “Blue Boy,“ was born in 1727, the youngest son of a weaver. His father, impressed by his pencil doodlings, sent him to London at the age of 13 to study art. During his time there, he married the illegitimate daughter of the Duke of Beaufort. His paintings, mainly landscapes, were not selling well, so he turned to painting portraits. He died in 1788, a victim of cancer. He was 61 years old. Music is “Fantasia on Greensleeves,“ by Vaughn
