This is episode “Full Fathom Five“ from the legendary “Victory at Sea“ TV series. It tells the story of the American Submarine force in World War 2, focusing on the Pacific Theater. Pound for pound in terms of ship tonnage sunk, U.S. subs produced results far beyond their relatively small numbers and struck a major blow to the Japanese war effort. “Victory at Sea“ was produced in the 1950's, soon after the War was over, so the producers were able to comb through hundreds of hours of documentary footage, much of which has subsequently been lost, so you'll see scenes you won't see anywhere else. And as a bonus, there are scenes from captured Japanese films too, adding a unique perspective. And last but not least, Richard Rogers, who wrote the music for “Oklahoma!,“ “The King and I“ and many more hit Broadway musicals wrote the award winning score, which became a best selling album.
