“Strange“ is one of Patsy Cline's better and more undervalued recordings, the flipside of a song that turned out to be a big hit in its own right, “She's Got You.“ Co-written by country star Mel Tillis, “Strange“ has more of a pop crossover feel than most of Cline's early-'60s country-pop recordings, with a near-calypso beat and wholesome pop backup vocals. It sounds like something Brenda Lee could well have handled, with a melody and arrangement that sound slightly influenced by the light pop-rock of the period. A most unexpected cover of the tune was done in the late 1980s by the Lemonheads. Thematically, however, “Strange“ fits in with much of Patsy Cline's work (and admittedly much country music) in its stoic, slightly bitter depiction of being jilted for another. The song was recorded nearly 12 months after the birth of her second of two children, Randy Dick (born January 22, 1961). It was recorded December 17, 1961 at Bradley Studios,
