In June, members of the African diaspora based in the United States and Canada, primarily from the Coalition for the Elimination of Imperialism in Africa (@abasimperialism), embarked on a 17-day delegation to the Alliance of Sahel States, a mutual defence pact between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger that has expanded to become a confederation. These countries underwent military coups in recent years that ousted Western-aligned leaders. So far, they’ve all booted coloniser France’s military and press. Now, they seek to unite their foreign policies and economies to decolonise their territories. The delegates, Obioma Ohia (@okalammuo), Prudence Iticka (@_dearprudence_) and Eliamani Ismail (@eliamanismail), first landed in Burkina Faso, where they met up with their host organisation, @burkinabooks. Together, they set off to Bamako, Mali, and Niamey, Niger, where they met with many organisations before returning to Burkina Faso. But why take such an extensive international journey across three countries previously riddled with terrorism in the aftermath of the NATO invasion of Libya and poverty in the shadow of French colonialism? In this video, these three Africans break it down. --------------------SOCIAL----------------------- FACEBOOK - INSTAGRAM - TIKTOK - @africanstream TWITTER -
