The 2020 celebration of the International Day of Forests with the theme “Forests and Biodiversity: Too precious to lose” at FAO headquarters was a virtual event with video messages from QU Dongyu, Director-General, FAO and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Acting Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Keynote addresses were made by Mette Wilkie, Director, Forestry Policy and Resources Division, FAO and David Wilkie, Executive Director, Rights and Communities, Wildlife Conservation Society. Messages were also included from Hiroto Mitsugi, Assistant Director-General, Forestry, FAO and Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director-General, Climate and Natural Resources, FAO. The event was moderated by Tiina Vähänen, Chief, Forestry Policy and Resources Division, FAO.
